Whoever kills an innocent is as it is as if he has killed all mankind and whoever saves a person, it is as if he has saved all mankind
On the surface, the above statement seems to be the epitome of Humanism and tolerance. So, why would the follower of a religion that preaches that killing an innocent is equivalent to killing all of humanity kill an innocent blogger? Clearly, the killers do not represent the 'true' Islam.Right?
Wrong! These killings begin to make sense once we take a look at at actual verses from the Quran.
Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.
and
Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment

The Quran permits killing someone for the crime of murder (or to save someone from murder) and for spreading "corruption". The muslim apologists may offer that a person who spreads corruption is not an innocent but what is the corruption that the Quran is speaking of? Is it not anything that is deemed unislamic by a cleric like homosexuality, teaching evolution, reading or writing the "wrong" kind of book, wearing the "wrong" type of clothes listening to the "wrong" music and even following the "wrong" sect of Islam.
No religion can sanction the killing of innocents. Any such religion would be rejected by any person with the basic sense of morality. So, instead of recommending the killing of innocents, Islam messes with the definition of innocence. These killings will continue until the cause behind them is recognized and addressed and any attempt to protect Islam from scrutiny by saying that the killers have misinterpreted Islam will only lead to the continuation of such horrific incidents.
If you are a Muslim or an Islamic apologist who disagrees with me you don't have to debate me. Invest your time in convincing the Ansar Al Islam, the Bangladesh branch of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), which has claimed responsibility for murdering Niloy Neel that it was wrong to kill an innocent blogger, Protest against the killing of freethinkers and rationalists on the streets and on social media. If for every fallen advocate of freethought and rationalism a hundred Muslims come forward to take his place, I would be glad to accept that i was wrong.
